HOME: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
What is MRI? A medical imaging technique in radiology to view the body functions and structure. Images are produced in detailed from any direction. MRI's are commonly used in neurological, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and Oncological imaging.
Why the MRI? MRI's are pain free, no side effects, no exposure to X-Rays and offers more contrast in the imaging. More information is obtainable using an MRI than a Computed Tomography (CT).
Where may I find an MRI? View a list of MRI Centers here.
How does an MRI work? MRI uses a magnetic field instead of ionizing radiation. The magnetic fields are adjusted to make up an image of the body. In addition, Contrast Agents may be injected into the body to increase image contrast of the tumors, blood vessels and other areas of concern.
Who uses an MRI? The MRI may be used for imaging of every part of the body. Neurological conditions, tumors, and joint conditions and blood vessels are often viewed using an MRI.
When is an MRI used? MRI is relatively new to the medical field for up to thirty (30) years of use. In comparison, X-Rays were used for 110 years.
